The Company
CamelBak originated and sells hands-free hydration systems for sports and recreational activities as well as high-performance gear for the military.
The Challenge
A large portion of CamelBak’s customers are government and military clients who weren’t able to access its previous Flash-based Web site. An extensive roster of products, images and resources had to be moved cleanly to the new site, where the company wanted to maintain an archive of previous model-year products and control which products were live.
The Solution
Sandstone Media wrote import scripts that converted the Flash-based system to the Sitecore content management system. Small flashponents were used that are replaced dynamically by images if the user doesn’t have Flash. Sandstone also added features to make it easy for users to purchase: a store locator that allows a worldwide search by ZIP code or country; links from products to e-commerce stores such as REI and Backcountry; and related products shown with each product a potential buyer views. An informational section was added that includes studies, images, videos, documents, tips and resources for customers and press.
The Result
Customers can filter products by sports activity so they can easily find the CamelBak product they’re looking for. Administrators can assign notes to any product to specify characteristics buyers might want. Thanks to its easy-to-understand architecture, it’s simple for nontechnical users to control and maintain the site.
